Families earn medals at NASTAR nationals

Members of two Hailey families brought back medals from Aspen/Snowmass, Co. and the 2013 Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships. NASTAR is the world’s largest recreational ski race program.

Cathy Tyson-Foster earned a silver medal in the Female 45-49 Bronze class. Jesse Foster took gold in the Male 40-44 Platinum category. Bryce Foster placed 23rd in Male 8-9 Platinum. Conrad Foster was fifth in Male 6-7 Gold division.

Eltiena Campbell, who competed and placed third in Sunday’s “Race of Champions,” was the gold medalist in Female 40-44 Platinum. Bill Campbell finished fourth in Male 40-44 Platinum. Connor Campbell was eighth in Male 8-9 Platinum, and TJ Campbell fourth in Male 6-7 Silver class.

 

Snowboarders at USASA nationals in Colorado

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation snowboarders Clara  Jenner (silver medal Breaker Girls snowboardcross) and Payton Bacca (silver Menehune Girls cross) led a productive opening day for the SVSEF at the 24th annual USASA Nationals Sunday, March 31 at Copper Mountain, Co. Other early SVSEF results: Ryan Roemer 17th Open Class slalom; and Elk Spencer 20th in Menehune Boys halfpipe.

Spring Series at Mammoth Mountain

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation racers Kipling Weisel, Kyla Miller and Linnea Baysinger led 14 from Sun Valley during the International Ski Federation (FIS) Spring Series March 27-30 at Mammoth Mountain, Ca.

Weisel won the U-18 class and finished 24th overall out of 106 men in Wednesday’s super giant slalom. He placed 16th overall in Friday’s slalom and was third among the U-18s.

Miller topped out with a U-18 second place and 10th overall of 40 finishers in the March 27 women’s SG. Baysinger was fifth among U-18s in each women’s SG event.

Here are the SVSEF class placings by successive event at the Spring Series:

( U-21 women: Amanda Stelling 13-SG, 17-SG, 29-GS, 23-SL; Sofi Leroux 25-GS, 18-SL; and Ali Gunesch DNF-GS, 24-SL.

( U-18 women: Kyla Miller 2-SG, 9-SG, DNF-GS; Linnea Baysinger 5-SG, 5-SG, 9-GS, 10-SL; Jenna Lou Jansky 19-SG, 20-SG, 25-GS, DNF-SL; and Mackenzie Bachmeier DNF-SG, DNF-SG, 10-GS, DNF-SL.

( U-18 men: Kipling Weisel 1-SG, 3-SG, 3-SL, 7-GS; KJ Savaria 14-SG, DNF-SG, DNS-SL, DNF-GS; William Harder 27-SG, 24-SG, 20-SL, DNF-GS; Parker Scott 21-SG, 20-SG, 10-SL, 17-GS; Tanner Josey 37-SG, 28-SG, DNF-SL, 23-GS; Marc Leroux 22-SG; and Ben Kanellitsas 24-SG, DNF-SG, DNF-SL, 20-GS.

 

Ski shrine seeks nominations

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, the national hall of fame for U.S. ski sports, is receiving nominations for the election of its next class of honorees, according to a March 28 press release from the Ishpeming, Mich. facility.

Nominations can be made by anyone and the deadline for the receipt of nominations is April 30. All nominations are reviewed by a National Selection Committee. Those meeting the qualifying criteria are placed before a National Voting Panel of 100 experts.

All nominees must have achieved a high level of national impact or accomplishment. They may come from a broad range of involvement as racing competitors, freestylers, freeskiing and big mountain skiers and snowboarders.
