Hobson a spring fling for SVSEF racers

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation alpine ski teamers celebrated the end of a successful ski season at Friday’s 36th annual Hobson Memorial races on Baldy. Overall Hobson Memorial trophy winners as fastest girl and boy were Margot Griffith and Payton Anderson.

After Friday’s race, 11 younger racers went to Grand Targhee for the Intermountain Division Spring Fling races March 30-31 that attracted 60 girls and 45 boys from Idaho, Wyoming and Utah.

In the U-8 girls class Goldie Kirk won Saturday’s dual slalom and Sunday’s giant slalom, while Anhwei Kirk swept those U-10 race events. Laci Jermunson was third in U-10 dual slalom and fourth in GS. Ava Schweiger also picked up a U-8 third place in GS.

Miriam Gilman placed 14th of 28 in the U-12 giant slalom, with Anja Schweiger 17th and Emma MacGuffie 20th. Anja Schweiger tied for ninth in dual slalom. Ryder Sarchett won both U-10 boys’ races. Jett Carruth tied for fifth in U-10 dual slalom and Colin MacGuffie was ninth in GS. Among the U-12 boys, Ethan Marx tied for ninth in dual slalom.

Hobson awards presented Friday went to members of the U-12 Home and Travel teams and the SVSEF Development Team. They were:

( U-12 Home Team awards—Coaches Awards: Miriam Gilman and Skye Leininger. Most Inspirational: Max Moss and Molly Kucher. MVPs: Aidan Burchmore and Emma MacGuffie.

( U-12 Travel awards—Coaches Awards: Lily Fitzgerald and Wyatt Minor. Most Inspirational: Ridley Lindstrom and Laine Allison.

( Devo Team awards—Coaches Awards: Anabel Viesturs, Shaw McCoubrey, Aliyah Chutkan and Logan Pilaro. Most Improved: Mattigan Monschke, Kyle Cohen, Niki Cohen, Leo Molter and Quincy McGraw. MVPs: Lauren Baty and Tor Johnston.
