Casino comes dancing back for Town Series title

From fourth to first on final day

Casino Dancing Bears handled the final Sun Valley Town Series event with a certain aplomb Wednesday and charged all the way from fourth place to first for the team championship of the 22nd annual series of dual modified giant slalom races on Baldy.

The Bears posted a nice, solid 0.27 score in Week 7 and thus maintained their nice, solid stretch of sub-1.15 scores each week to finish the series with a 3.69 and slip past defending Town Series champion Scott USA (4.06). Scott scored 1.80 in Wednesday’s combined two-run format.

Neil Jessen, Kevin Doyle, Paige Griffith and Franny Hjort were on the Casino team.

The Dancing Bears won their 2011 Town Series title a little differently, leading all season and then ballooning to 5.46 on the final day but still holding on to win the crown with a 6.25 score. This year the champs were steady as she goes, logging scores of 0.00, 1.09, 0.09, 1.15, 1.09 and 0.27.

On the second-place Scott USA team Wednesday were John Zuck, John Reagle, Toby Arnett and Jeff Page.

Jumping two places from Week 6 to Week 7 were third-place All 4 All (4.40) and fourth-place Shot Skis (4.43). Each enjoyed 0.00 afternoons for the finale. Racing for All 4 All were John Campbell, Alan Rickers, Dan Kurdy and Buffalo Lamb. On the Shot Skis squad were Brett Jacobson, Tyler Corrock, Cameron Leady and Billy Cook.

In fifth place with a cumulative 4.56 was Corduroy Is for Pants: “PKs” with Tyler Chandler, Charlotte Gourlay, Alex Jackson and Christy Luby. PKs finished just ahead of sixth-place Tall Tecates with Lime (4.98) who posted their third straight 0.00 effort with Julie Bell, Michelle Ferris, Laura Blackburn and Heather Minor.

You want to land in the top five of this year’s 35 teams since the names of 20 racers from that group were entered into a drawing for the grand prize of four Sun Valley 2013-14 season ski passes.

Those season ski pass winners drawn Wednesday at Apple’s Bar & Grill were Cameron Leady and Brett Jacobson of Shot Skis, Alex Jackson of PKs and Neil Jessen of Casino Dancing Bears.

Meanwhile, Arc Park’s Miles Fink-Debray (33.36 seconds), the first-run leader, and second-run leader Robin Sarchett (33.41) of Arc Park were the top two racers Wednesday.
