Ketchum radio dials get new stop

Community radio station to hit airwaves April 12

Ketchum residents looking for more radio stations should dust off one of the—likely many—unused memory buttons on their car stereos and prepare to assign it to 89.3 FM. KDPI, a non-commercial radio station, is scheduled hit the city’s airwaves starting April 12.

“It’s going to be really a nice thing to have,” said founder Mike Scullion at a City Council meeting last week, during which Mayor Randy Hall awarded him a plaque of recognition for his efforts in launching the station.

Scullion said volunteer hosts will present about 90 percent of the station’s programming, including “lot’s of music” and also talk shows.

“KDPI focuses on education, news and entertainment programming, and is designed to stimulate interest, awareness and participation in culture, education and politics,” a recent KDPI news release states.

The station headquarters is located at 620 Main St., adjacent to the Clarion Hotel.

In an interview after the meeting, Scullion said he received from the community about $30,000 in donations to fund the station.
