Cool, windy day for track athletes

Thursday in Twin

Cold temperatures and windy conditions greeted prep track and field athletes from Hailey’s Wood River High School, host Twin Falls and Burley on Thursday, March 21.

Wood River traveled with a smaller-than-normal group of 16 girls and seven boys because of sickness and other reasons, but the Wolverine girls piled up 47 points to finish second to leader Twin Falls (108).

First-place Wolverine winners were: Senior Ian Keys in the 100-meter and 200m dashes in 11.1 and 23.6 seconds respectively; senior Nicole Pratt in 300m intermediate hurdles (54.0 seconds); and sophomore Kenya Schott 800m run (2:51.5).

Keys finished his day compiling the lion’s share of Wood River’s 17 team points adding a second place in the triple jump (34 feet, 10.5 inches).

The Hailey girls fielded three second-place relay teams: The 4x100m group of Bailey Rierden, Sara Lichtenberg, Nicole Pratt, Lexi Browne (58.2); the medley team of Emily Todd, Rierden, Sara Lichtenberg, Janel Passey (2:12.1); and the 4x400m squad of Galena Hansen, Mariah Stout, Janel Passey, Kenya Schott (4:59.2).

Other Hailey placers:

- 2nds—Galena Hansen 800m; Lauren Lichtenberg discus; Sara Lichtenberg high jump and 400m; Amanda Passey 1600m (PR); Bailey Rierden triple jump; and Taylor Douthit shotput.

- 3rds—Taylor Douthit discus (PR); Chloe Lichtenberg high jump; Hallie MacPherson 3200m; Nicole Pratt long jump; and Mariah Stout 800m.

- 4ths—Brandon Yagla 400m; Nicole Pratt 200m; and Mia Uhrig discus.

Other personal records for Wood River came from Alex Bell, Nick Bell, Lexi Browne and Brooke Sundholm.
