WRHS tennis team collects first GBC wins

Over Twin Falls, Jerome


It was a productive pre-spring vacation week for coach Carlos Meza’s Wood River High School tennis teams.

The Wolverines collected their first Great Basin Conference league wins of the 2013 season, both on the road 7-5 over Twin Falls March 19 and 11-1 over Jerome March 21.

Breaking down the boys’ and girls’ scores, the Wood River girls defeated Twin Falls 5.5 to 0.5 while the Twin Falls boys were 4.5-1.5 winners over Wood River. Adding together the scores resulted in the 7-5 final. Against Jerome, the Hailey boys won 6-0 and the girls prevailed 5-1.

Singles winners for Wood River in the two dual meets were Stephen Pfeiffer, Chase Hutchinson, Danny Graves, Drew Morse, Lily Richards, Megan Murphy, Riley Kilmartin Schmidt and Margaret Reutter.

Miles Remington and Audrey Brassil earned a pair of mixed doubles wins for the Wolverines, while Alex Taylor and Samantha Taylor won twice at No. 1 girls’ doubles.

Wood River visits Canyon Ridge in Twin Falls April 2 and goes to Rupert for league matches against Minico April 4. First home matches are Tuesday, April 9 in Hailey. Here are last week’s results:

WRHS 11, Jerome 1

- Boys’ singles: 1—Chase Hutchinson (WR) 6-0, 6-2 over Michael Licano (J). 2—Danny Graves (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Ben Carlisle (J). 3—Drew Morse (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Zachary Vasquez (J).

- Girls’ singles: 1—Lily Richards (WR) 6-1, 6-0 over Morgan McCarthy (J). 2—Margaret Reutter (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Ana James (J). 3—Ashley Newman (J) by forfeit.

- Boys’ doubles: 1—Max Mauldin-Stephen Pfeiffer (WR) 7-6, 6-2 over Bruno Garay-James Powell (J). 2—Jose Juarez-Sebastiano De Liborio (WR) 6-3, 6-2 over Simon Reyes-Alejandro Vidaca (J).

- Girls’ doubles: 1—Alex Taylor-Samantha Taylor (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Yesenia Conchas-Barbara Rodriguez (J). 2—Alex Feldman-Rachel Crippa (WR) 6-0, 6-0 over Kolby Kern-Joanie Mapes (J).

- Mixed doubles: 1—Miles Remington-Audrey Brassil (WR) 6-2, 6-3 over Brennon Clegg-Dom West (J). 2—Carlos Hurtado-Katja Peller (WR) 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 over Carlos Cervantes-Liz Caliz (J).

WRHS 7, Twin Falls 5

- Boys’ singles: 1—Dallas Hunt (TF) 6-1, 6-0 over Erik Wilander (WR). 2—Stephen Pfeiffer (WR) 7-6, 6-2 over Jacob Wickern (TF). 3—Chris Flournot (TF) 6-1, 6-0 over Jose Juarez (WR).

- Girls’ singles: 1—Lily Richards (WR) 6-1, 6-2 over Hailey Horton (TF). 2—Megan Murphy (WR) 6-2, 6-1 over Melina Rudina (TF). 3—Riley Kilmartin Schmidt (WR) 6-3, 6-1 over Ellise Allen (TF).

- Boys’ doubles: 1—Cole Hunt-Andy  Carter (TF) 6-1, 6-3 over Cole Caminiti-Josh Morell (WR). 2—Andre Wickern-Shane Tucker (TF) 6-1, 6-4 over Chandler Gifford-Sebastiano De Liborio (WR).

- Girls’ doubles: 1—Alex Taylor-Samantha Taylor (WR) 6-0, 6-1 over Tartan Trotter-Jordyn Clark (TF). 2—Tate Morell-Alex Feldman (WR) 6-0, 6-3 over Morgan Biggs-Olivia Johnson (TF).

- Mixed doubles: 1—Brad Pierce-Karin Olsen (TF) 7-5, 6-4 over Danny Graves-Margaret Reutter (WR). 2—Miles Remington-Audrey Brassil (WR) 6-1, 6-0 over Sam Cox-Mahal a Starr (TF).
