Janss Pro-Am returns April 4-6

At Sun Valley

Tuesday’s snowfall and the continued cool weather has gotten skiers fired up for the end of the 2012-13 ski season—and for the upcoming Janss Pro-Am Classic at Sun Valley.

The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) is planning its 16th annual Janss Pro-Am Classic fund-raising event. Title sponsor is Stifel Nicolaus Weisel for the three-day celebration of skiing and snowboarding set for Thursday through Saturday, April 4-6.

A primary SVSEF fundraiser, the Janss Pro Am provides one-third of the organization’s operating budget and is the largest contributor to the SVSEF financial aid program.

It is named for the late Bill Janss, former owner of Sun Valley Resort, Olympian, SVSEF supporter, ski and costume party enthusiast.

Ski and snowboard participants will race dual giant slalom with ski professionals and former Olympians, Pro Tour and World Cup racers.

This year’s Janss pros include Casey Puckett, Langely McNeal, Will Brandenburg, Libby Ludlow, Kyle Wieche, Petr Kakes, Craig Sabina, Jonna Mendes and Zach Crist.

Each team will be assigned “Junior Pro,” a current athlete selected from the SVSEF teams.

Weekend highlights include a traditional “Pro Welcome Party” at the Olympic Bar at Ketchum’s Michel’s Christiania, a “Sports Bar” après ski Party” at Whiskey Jacques, hosted breakfasts and lunches, and an awards banquet in the Sun Valley Limelight Room.

This year’s theme is “Let the Games Begin.” Costumes are encouraged. Participants can take part as a corporate team sponsor, team sponsor, individual racer or guest. All abilities are encouraged.
