Letter to the SNRA

Express Staff Writer

Dear SNRA,
In response to your invitation to comment and to make suggestions for the newly proposed trails to be formed and increased in the Galena Peak area, I take this opportunity to put forth my ideas of what I’d like to see implemented in the forest.
The entire paths should all be equipped with handrails and steps for inclined areas. It would be nice to have a designated rest stop in the middle of the longer trails with water, bathrooms and food. I suggest a McDonald’s with a liquor license and Wi-Fi capabilities for thirstier adventurers who want to be kept informed. The paths should be created with Astroturf for comfort and ease for hiking. In addition, I’d like to see grape arbors overhead and edible plants lining the trails. Telescope areas should be designated along with color photographs of other Sawtooth National Recreation Area scenic views.
A special trail, 30 feet in length located right by the parking lot at the Galena Lodge called the “Roma Nelson Walker Memorial Trail,” could be dedicated on the first day of summer. Dog treats will be available at the trailhead.
In the winter, all trails will remain open for snowshoe enthusiasts with the addition of electric heaters every 50 feet. An SNRA Visitor Center employee would be stationed there day and night to inform visitors of the history of the area and why they have chosen their career as a ranger and a life coach.
I would appreciate seeing these changes take effect this season and continue throughout the year as sometimes there’s just nothing to do. Have a great summer!
    Nice talking to you.
