Wolverine tennis team picks up first win

Over Twin Falls


    Wood River High School’s tennis team coached by Carlos Meza earned its first dual meet victory of the season Tuesday 7-5 over host Twin Falls.
    Breaking down the boys’ and girls’ scores, the Wood River girls defeated Twin Falls 5.5 to 0.5 while the Twin Falls boys were 4.5-1.5 winners over Wood River. Adding together the scores resulted in the 7-5 final.
    Wood River swept girls’ singles with straight set victories by steady No. 1 Lily Richards, No. 2 Megan Murphy and No. 3 Riley Kilmartin Schmidt.
    No. 2 boys’ singles Stephen Pfeiffer of Wood River prevailed 7-6, 6-2 over Jacob Wickern of Twin Falls in a hard-fought match featuring long rallies and impressive angle shots by both players.
    Although Wood River met its match in boys’ doubles, losing twice to the Bruins, the Hailey girls swept Twin Falls in straight sets in girls’ doubles with No. 1 Alex Taylor-Samantha Taylor and No. 2 Tate Morell-Alex Feldman.
    Miles Remington and Audrey Brassil spent plenty of time at the net and provided a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 2 mixed doubles.

    ( Boys’ singles: 1—Dallas Hunt (TF) 6-1, 6-0 over Erik Wilander (WR). 2—Stephen Pfeiffer (WR) 7-6, 6-2 over Jacob Wickern (TF). 3—Chris Flournot (TF) 6-1, 6-0 over Jose Juarez (WR).
    ( Girls’ singles: 1—Lily Richards (WR) 6-1, 6-2 over Hailey Horton (TF). 2—Megan Murphy (WR) 6-2, 6-1 over Melina Rudina (TF). 3—Riley Kilmartin Schmidt (WR) 6-3, 6-1 over Ellise Allen (TF).
    ( Boys’ doubles: 1—Cole Hunt-Andy  Carter (TF) 6-1, 6-3 over Cole Caminiti-Josh Morell (WR). 2—Andre Wickern-Shane Tucker (TF) 6-1, 6-4 over Chandler Gifford-Sebastiano De Liborio (WR).
    ( Girls’ doubles: 1—Alex Taylor-Samantha Taylor 6-0, 6-1 over Tartan Trotter-Jordyn Clark (TF). 2—Tate Morell-Alex Feldman (WR) 6-0, 6-3 over Morgan Biggs-Olivia Johnson (TF).
    ( Mixed doubles: 1—Brad Pierce-Karin Olsen (TF) 7-5, 6-4 over Danny Graves-Margaret Reutter (WR). 2—Miles Remington-Audrey Brassil (WR) 6-1, 6-0 over Sam Cox-Mahal a Starr (TF).
