On the first day of spring, a blizzard of snowfall greeted men’s and women’s skier slopestyle competitors Wednesday, March 20 on the third day of action at Sun Valley Resort’s Dollar Mountain.
Sun Valley Resort is the third and final stop on the 2013 U.S. Revolution Tour for snowboarders and skiers. The five-day event started Monday, March 18 and runs through Friday, March 22.
Winning the women’s skier slopestyle event in a field of eight with a 90.6 score was Taylor Lundquist, 19, of Park City, Utah. Lundquist most recently placed third in slopestyle March 10 in a Nor-Am Cup event at Northstar-Tahoe, Ca.
Men’s skier slopestyle winner with a 92.8 score topping a field of 65 Wednesday was Tim Ryan, 17, Freeride Team member for the Waterville Valley Ski Academy Black and Blue Trail Smashers (WVBBTSD) in New Hampshire.
Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) Freestyle/Freeski team member River Kelly, 16, placed 56th and Hayes Gilman, 16, was 65th.
Men’s and women’s skier halfpipe competition took place Tuesday, March 19 on the 22-foot pipe course at Dollar.
Women’s winner was Maggie Stout, 21, whose home slope is Blue Mountain in Pennsylvania. Her score was 92.2 leading a group of 10 women. Team Summit racer Stout won a silver medal in a Nor-Am Cup halfpipe at Vail, Co. Feb. 24.
Men’s winner was 18-year-old Broby Leeds of the Vail (Co.) Ski and Snowboard Academy with a score of 92.0 to lead the 37-rider field. Leeds recently won the Junior Championships skier halfpipe at Park City, Utah. Sun Valley’s Trevor Hattabaugh placed fourth Tuesday with an 81.6 score.
Now in its ninth season, the “Rev Tour” is designed to serve as a stepping stone for athletes making the transition from competing at the grassroots level to the elite level.
Ski and snowboard halfpipe finals in the 22-foot Dollar pipe were Thursday. One day remains for competition:
