Hunter/Jumper show at Thermal attracts local riders

Six local equestrians competed at the HITS Desert Circuit Hunter/Jumper show in Thermal, Ca. near Palm Springs during mid-March.

Based in Saugerties, N.Y., HITS, Inc. is a special events management company primarily focused on producing hunter/jumper horse shows. HITS, Inc. produces two of the richest grand prix in the world including the AIG Thermal $1 Million Grand Prix March 12-17 in Thermal, Ca.

Results from Thermal for Wood River equestrians follow:

- McKenna Norris: The Sun Valley resident and Wood River Middle School student trains with Autumn Hill (Teresa Englehart and Nedra Skidmore) at Sagebrush Arena.

At Thermal she was Reserve Champion: HITS Child Hunter 2’9” Week 5 on her horse Speechless.

- Macy Mitchell: The Hailey resident and Wood River High School freshman trains with Autumn Hills (Teresa Englehart & Nedra Skidmore) at Sagebrush Arena.

At Thermal she was Champion: Child Jumper 3’7” division Week 6 on Kantos. Also, Macy was Reserve Champion: Child Jumper Low 3’3” division Week 5 on Kantos.

She captured second place out of 60 riders in $1,000 Child/Adult Jumper-Low Classic week 5 on Kantos. In addition, Macy had several “Blue Ribbon rounds” (Level 2 & Level 3 jumpers) on both of her horses Kantos and Ringmaster Weeks 5 and 6.

- Rita Golleher: The local resident;rides and trains in CA with Joie Gaitlin and Morley Abey.

She was Champion: Adult Hunter 3’ division Week 2 on Current Affair; and winner of the Practical Horseman Adult Hunter Stake Week 6 on Teddy.

- Karen MacMillan: The local resident rides and trains at Hailey’s River Grove Farm with Bob McDonald.

She was Reserve Champion: Adult Jumper Low 3’3” division Week 5 on Wijsneus.

- Lindsey Hosler: The local resident; rides and trains at River Grove Farm with Bob McDonald.

She earned several “high” ribbons in the Amateur-Owner 3’3” 18-35 division Weeks 7.

- Caroline Jones: The Ketchum resident and Community School junior trains with Cottonwood Creek (Kim McDonald-Koch) at Hailey’s Sagebrush Arena.

She won several “high” ribbons in the Modified Child Hunter and Equitation divisions Weeks 5 and 6 on her horse Snow Patrol.
