Devo freeskiers impress at Olympic Park

Fun divisional finals at Park City


Seventeen younger athletes from the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Freestyle/Freeskiing program showed their stuff in a field of 65 over the weekend.

Action took place during Intermountain Division Devo Championships (ages 14-and-under) at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City, Utah.

Freestyle/Freeski program director Andy Ware said, “It was an exciting event. Sun Valley continues to have a major presence in the division. Our athletes came prepared and really gave a tremendous effort. It was a very proud moment for myself and coach Penelope Murray. We cleaned up.”

Devon Brown won the overall girls’ title and the 12-year-old age class. Aloe Orison finished tied for third overall and third among the 12s.

In the boys’ division "BIG" Joey Markthaler had a huge second run and ended up tied for second overall and first in the 9-year-old class. Henry Cherp finished third overall and first among the 11s.

Other results, with class placing, overall in parentheses:

- 11-year-olds: 3—Jack Wojcik (14th). 5—Rainey Wilson (10th). 6—Katie Markthaler (12th). 7—Eliza Marks (13th).

- 10-year-olds: 3—Logan Wojcik (21st).

- 9-year-olds: 3—Ridge Dirksmeier (8th). 4—Sam Ware (9th). 5—George Murray (12th). 8—Toby Rafford (19th). 9—Wilson Baker (20th). 11—Jack Morton (27th).

- 8-year-olds: 3—Lachland McFarland (31st).

- 7-year-olds: 1—Frances Cherp (19th).
