Park City IMD finals bring out 150 kids

U-12 and U-10 races on CB’s, Picabo’s


Over 150 young alpine ski racers ages 9-11 including 20 from the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation gathered at Park City, Utah for the Intermountain Division Championships March 15-17.

U-12 Wyatt Minor had the fastest first heat Sunday on Picabo’s run and placed second overall to Samuel Levine of Park City in slalom. Levine won all three U-12 races last weekend including Friday‘s 32-racer dual slalom.

In Friday’s dual slalom on Picabo’s, Minor won four of his five match-ups and lost only to eventual champ Levine in the semi-finals. Minor ended up placing third over Park City racer Eli Kimche.

U-12 Madison Ferris topped the SVSEF girls at Park City with a pair of seventh places in giant slalom on CB’s run and slalom on Picabo’s. She also won all five heats to capture the U-12 title of Friday’s dual slalom over McKenna Schroeder of Jackson Hole. Wyo.

In U-10 boys, Josh Blackburn won his class each race and placed 15th overall of all 76 boys in Saturday’s giant slalom. Marit Kaiser was a 1.60-second U-10 girls’ winner in giant slalom and finished 10th overall of 76 girls. Kaiser placed third of eight girls in U-10 dual slalom.

Here are class placings by race for the 20 SVSEF kids:

- U-12 girls: Madison Ferris 7-GS, 7-SL; Sage Curtis 14-GS, 25-SL; Allison Rathfon 15-GS, 12-SL; Anja Jensen 23-GS, 46-SL; Laine Allison 41-GS, 44-SL; and Emma MacGuffie 49-GS, 39-SL.

- U-12 boys: Wyatt Minor 7-GS, 2-SL; Buey Grossman 4-GS, DNF-SL; Bennett Snyder 5-GS, 26-SL; Fletcher Stumph 26-GS, 45-SL; Shaw Dean 27-GS, DNF-SL; Charlie Snyder DNF-GS, 38-SL; Alexander Daves DNF-GS, 41-SL; and William Everitt DNF-GS, 43-SL.

- U-10 girls: Marit Kaiser 1-GS (10th overall), 2-SL; Jessica Blackburn 4-GS, 5-SL; Hannah Ferris 9-GS, 7-SL; Anhwei Kirk 11-GS, 6-SL; and Lily Ann Dean 15-GS, DSQ-SL.

- U-10 boys: Josh Blackburn 1-GS (15th overall), 1-SL.

 

U-14 Divisional finals this week

Sun Valley Resort and the SVSEF will host the U-14 (ages 12-13) Tri-Divisional Championships Thursday, March 21 through Sunday, March 24 on Baldy’s Warm Springs side.

The four-day event includes a special awards and pizza party Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Dollar Mountain and Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge. The evening will include a dual slalom race plus a sampling of the Dollar Mountain terrain park.

Race schedule:

- Thursday, March 21: Men’s giant slalom on Hemingway/Greyhawk and women’s slalom on Cozy.

- Friday, March 22: Women’s giant slalom on Hemingway/Greyhawk and men’s slalom on Cozy. Dollar Mountain dual slaloms 4-7 p.m.

- Saturday, March 23: Super giant slalom training on Warm Springs.

- Sunday, March 24: Women’s and men’s super giant slaloms on Warm Springs. Awards afterward at Warm Springs Lodge.
