Nice morning for Ski Club slalom

Next race March 16

On a beautiful Saturday morning, many of the top local Town Series, Masters and junior racers competed in a Sun Valley Ski Club slalom on Warm Springs. It was part of the new Baldy Cup series.

Competition was tightest for the juniors. Jordan Fitzgerald led the junior women after the first run, but a second run stumble opened the door for Amanda Stelling to win the age group. She finished second overall behind Erika Hogan.

Fitzgerald finished third overall for women.

All nine junior men racing seemed intent on beating their coaches and the Masters-class racers. Yet only two of the nine young guns racing managed to finish both runs.

Kipling Weisel and Logan Shipley placed first and second.  Neither beat Carl Rixon the first run.  However, much to his surprise, Weisel beat Rixon the second run by enough to win the race.

Rixon finished second overall, followed by Miles Fink-Debray in third overall.

Class winners were Ginny Reed, Nancy Auseklis, George Bailey, Frank Ward, Royal McClure, Jim Ragan and John Campbell.  Complete results at sunvalleyski.com.

Next, the Ski Club Championships Saturday, March 16.

This race is open to everyone. Racers ranging in age from under 10 to over 70 will compete, as well as racers ranging in ability from beginners to international class. Prize money will be paid to the fastest man and woman.

Contact the Sun Valley Ski Club 622-3003 for details.
