Want to become a school teacher?

The American Board offers assistance to certification

Anyone with a bachelor’s degree who would like to become a school teacher can fulfill his or her aspirations with the assistance of the American Board, a nonprofit organization established by the U.S. Department of Education.

Representatives of the American Board will be in Bellevue on Tuesday, March 12, to explain how becoming a teacher could become a reality. A meeting is set for 3 p.m. that day at The Mountain School, 100 Mustang Lane, on the north side of Bellevue. Interested parties should register in advance by contacting Cherri Sabala at 631-3225 or csabala@amiercanboard.org.

The American Board explains in a news release that the organization “offers a state-sanctioned route to Idaho teacher certification” to people with a “commitment to student achievement” who would like to “bring their passion and dedication to the classrooms that need them most.”

“With this announcement, we are hoping to connect with local community members who are considering the teaching profession,” the press release states.

On its website, the American Board states that people with degrees can earn teacher certification in eight to 10 months, mainly through online independent study. The board offers assistance with online workshops, practice tests and support from an advising team. The cost for certification in most subjects is $2,350.
