Sofa Kings lounge on top of Town Series

Rixon fastest in Wednesday GS

The first-place Sofa Kings minimized the damage, but otherwise several of the top teams took a hit Wednesday as the 22nd annual Sun Valley Town Series of team ski races resumed on the Warm Springs side of Baldy.

No teams with the desired 0.00 scores remain after five weeks of the dual modified giant slalom racing, with only two weeks to go.

Soft Kings spent the first three weeks rolling along with a cumulative 0.00 rating, only to pick up 1.52 points Wednesday and still remain in first place ahead of resurgent Scott USA (2.22).

Sofa Kings racers are Lenny Joseph, Barrett Molter, Ted Tuma and Bob Buchanan. The crafty Scott USA Town Series veterans feature John Reagle, John Zuck, Jeff Page and Toby Arnett.

Casino Dancing Bears (2.33 over 5 weeks), Greatful Shred (3.00) and Ski Tek (3.07) all enjoyed productive days Wednesday with 1.15, 0.52 and 0.42 scores to move into third place, fifth place and seventh place respectively.

The only 0.00 teams Wednesday were Tall Tecates with Lime (4.98, 11th place) with Michelle Ferris, Laura Blackburn, Julie Bell and Heather Minor, and Val’s Pals (7.75, 18th place) with D.J. Hart, Georgie Suttor, Kevin Foley and Val Gillespie.

You want to land in the top five of this year’s 35 teams since the names of 20 racers from that group are entered into a drawing for the grand prize of four Sun Valley 2013-14 season ski passes.

Carl Rixon Jr. (23.93 seconds, best of 2 runs) of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF) team led 119 racers Wednesday ahead of Arc Park’s Miles Fink-Debray (24.16) and Arc Park’s Robin Sarchett (24.29). Others:

4—Nate Schwing (SVSEF) 24.62. 5—Hunter Storey (The Hos from Sturtos) 25.36. 6—Joe Atwood (Sturtos) 25.40. 7—Wes Powell (Apple’s) 25.71. 8—John Campbell (All 4 All) 25.79. 9—Erika Hogan (SVSEF) 25.86. 10—Biche Rudigoz (Michel’s Christi) 25.91. 11—Brett Jacobson (Shot Skis) 26.19. 12—Jim Grossman (Ski Tek) 26.49. 13—Mike Gowe (CBG Flat out Ridiculous) 26.93. 14—Jan Hegewald (Michel’s Christi) 27.00. 15—Charlotte Gourlay (Corduroy is for Pants: PK’s) 27.37 and John Lee (Glow Pokes) 27.37.

Rabbit was Ira Shapiro (Shaun Donovan’s) at 33.30 for 60th place.

Final two dates of the season are March 13 (party at Grumpy’s) and March 27 (combined 2 runs, party and awards at Apple’s Bar & Grill).
