Local officials made good choices

Two excellent decisions have been made in the past week.

Requiring bike riders to dismount when using a crosswalk in Hailey will surely prevent accidents. Bike riders zooming into the crosswalk, thinking they have the power to stop traffic on a dime, has been a problem for a very long time. Crosswalks are for pedestrians. A pedestrian is a person who is walking. Thank you, Fritz Haemmerle.

The decision to have Safe Haven provide elder care services was a wise one. The county should not be in the business of nursing care. My husband and I both had mothers who needed assisted living and both thrived in a warm, caring environment. Neither of those women would have accepted county-run care.

Yes, assisted living can be expensive, but good planning through the years can make it affordable. Parents and families making responsible plans and decisions through the years is the key. Thank you to the commissioners.
