Swimmers heat it up at Cabin Fever meet

Twelve members of the year-round Sun Valley 5B Swim Team continued their high-place scoring as they competed against 300 swimmers from 10 teams at the annual USA-sanctioned Caldwell Cabin Fever Invitational Feb. 2-3.

Dedicated training paid off as coach Brian Gallagher’s racers from the Wood River Valley captured 10 first-place finishes with most of the squad posting personal-best times.

Mason Johnson (ages 11-12) had a huge meet with a first-place finish in the 50 back plus second places in 50 and 100 free, 100 back and 50 fly. He also placed second in 200 individual medley where he improved his time by 17.50 seconds.

Zach Deal (11-12) improved personal-best times in his races. He took first in 50 breast, second in 100 breast, third in his career-first 200 IM, fourth in 100 free and fourth in his first 200 free, and fifth in 50 free.

Maddie Johnson (13-14) racked up five first-place finishes in 200 back, 100 and 200 fly, 400 IM and 200 breast plus second in 100 free.

Ashley Dreyfus (15-over) took top honors in 100 breast, and second in 100 fly, 50 free, 50 breast and 200 breast where she was just touched out of first by a racer from the College of Idaho. Dreyfus also captured third place in 100 free.

Mia Smith (15-over) improved times in 50 back (13th) and 50 free (13th). Katherine Lemma (13-14) took first in 50 back and 50 breast and placed second in 100 and 200 breast, dropping 24 seconds in the 100. She picked up a fourth in 100 free.

Danielle Doerflein 13-14) swam six events well, finishing second in 50 breast, fourth in 100 breast and also placing in 50 and 100 back (7th), 50 and 100 free (9th).

Andrea DeKlotz (13-14) improved times significantly, shaving 8.92 seconds off her 200 free to take 10th and 4.06 seconds off the 100 breast (7th). She also placed in 50 breast (6th) and 100 free (11th).

Petra Glenn (11-12) had a fabulous finish in 200 free, dropping 3.50 seconds (7th), and also placed in 50 free (10th), 50 breast (11th), 100 free (12th), 100 breast (13th) and 50 fly (12th).

Faye Prekeges (11-12) scored a great fifth place in 50 fly and also placed in the 100 back (7th), 50 back (8th), 200 free (9th), 50 breast (16th) and 100 free (15th).

Eva Carlson (9-10) finished strong in the top 10 in five of her events, placing fourth in 100 breast and also placing in 50 breast (6th), 50 free and 50 fly (7ths) and 200 free (10th).

Maggie Deal (9-10) posted her best times in 50 and 100 free, finishing 22nd and 19th, while also placed 19th in the 50 back.

SV5B relay placings were:

1—200 medley with Smith, Doerflein, Dreyfus and Lemma (13-14);

1—200 free with Lemma, Doerflein, DeKlotz and Dreyfus (13-14)

5—200 medley with Prekeges, Carlson, Glenn and Deal (8-and-under);

8—200 free with Glenn, Carlson, Deal and Prekeges (12-and-under).
