Sports summary


Freestyle success at Squaw Valley

Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation freestyle skiers dominated a Presidents’ Day competition at Squaw Valley, Ca. Comp Team member Jacob Beebe was the overall winner of the halfpipe and slopestyle events in spring-like conditions. There were 61 mogul racers with Sun Valley’s Morgan Shaver, RJ Bracken and Alec Poster having top results.

In Saturday’s single moguls: Morgan Shaver 8th overall (2nd F1), Alysha Herich 10th overall (3rd F2), RJ Bracken 3rd overall (2nd M1), Zach Maricich-Siele 5th overall (2nd M2), Wyatt Wilson 11th overall (4th M2), Jack Rizzo 12th overall (5th M2), Wilson Dunn 13th overall (4th M3), Alec Poster 15th overall (6th M2) and Will Griffith 19th overall (2nd M4).

Shaver and Poster placed 4th in Sunday’s dual moguls, with Wilson 6th and Herich 9th.

Friday’s slopestyle: Placing first in age groups were Jacob Beebe, River Kelly and Will Griffith; and, in Thursday’s Boreal Mountain halfpipe, first class placers were Beebe, Perry Boyle and Griffith, Kelly was second and Eli Roberts and Hayes Gilman placing third.

In other freestyle team news: Gold Team racer Shane Cordeau was 20th in Saturday's Nor-Am mogul event in Apex, British Columbia and 9th in duals on Sunday. He and Shaver are headed to Val St. Come, Quebec, Canada for the next Nor-Am event.

 

Football team plans crab feed on March 2

The Wood River High School football program is planning its second annual Crab Feed and Raffle for Saturday, March 2 from 5-9 p.m. at the high school in Hailey. The all-you-can-eat cost of $30 per person (4 for $100) benefits WRHS football. Tickets are available at the high school office. Sun Valley B+ Hockey League results

Sun Valley B+ Hockey League results from Sunday, Feb. 17 at Sun Valley Skating Center:

Hutch’s Bad Dogs (6-4-2) won 4-1 over Rockets (5-6-1) with Rob Prew (2 goals), Brad Musbach and Whit Atkinson (1 goal/1 assist) scoring for the winning team. Other assists came from Eddie Grimes and Steve McCoy. Rockets goal scorer was Gretel Kearney.

Aardvarks (7-3-2) got 2 goals apiece from Josh Green and Will Hemmings plus singles off the sticks of Clark Shafer and Todd Avison en route to a 6-3 victory over Sharks (5-7-0). Sharks scorers were Chris Corwin, Sara Schroeder and Rod Watson.

Vipers (7-5-0) got goals from five different skaters—Jim Laski, Matt Brauer, Tom Cahill, John Ellison Jr. and Tony Mallane—in their 5-3 win over Flounders (3-6-1). Scoring for Flounders were John Baker, Jeff Ballou and Jini Griffith.

 

Mini World Cup GS

The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation U-12 Home Team held its Mini World Cup super giant slalom and downhill events Feb. 9-10 on Dollar Mountain. Top best-of-two run times in seconds and hundredths:
