Samantha Engel of Hailey has earned placement on the Gonzaga University president’s list (GPAs 3.7 to 4.0) for the 2012 fall semester at the Spokane, Wash., college.

Alexandra Funk, daughter of James and Candy Funk of Bellevue, has been named to the dean’s list (GPAs 3.7 and above) for the 2012 fall semester at Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky.

James Conroy, a Denison University (Ohio) student from Sun Valley, studied off-campus for the fall 2012 semester with the Danish Institute for Study Abroad Program in Denmark.

Racheal McGinnis of Hailey was on the fall semester dean’s list (GPA 3.75 and above) at the University of Denver.

Elana King-Nakaoka of Hailey, a member of the class of 2014, made the fall term honor roll at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass.

Kyler Van Dyck of Bellevue earned fall 2012 dean’s list honors (3.33 GPA or better) at the University of Montana Western in Dillon, Mont.

Jackson Bates of Hailey, a 2010 Community School graduate who played ice hockey and soccer during high school here, is a member of the Gonzaga University club hockey team as well as being a National Honor Society member and dean’s list student at the Spokane college.

Marlow Mizer, a 12th-grade student, earned honors for the fall 2012 term at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Mizer of Hailey.

Karl Wilander of Hailey is among 1,310 members of the class of 2016 enjoying their first year at Tufts University in Medford/Somerville, Mass.

Elena Guylay, an 11-year-old sixth-grade student at the Community School in Sun Valley, was among 54 winners of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy Lunchtime Challenge recipe contest. She attended a Kids’ State Dinner luncheon hosted by first lady Michelle Obama at the White House on Aug. 20. Guylay’s Fiesta Casserole was the best healthy dish submitted by an Idaho student. She and her mother, Kathryn, were flown to Washington, D.C., where she shook hands with President Barack Obama and the first lady, enjoyed the lunch prepared by the White House chef and listened to a private concert by the popular band Big Time Rush.
