Teams bunch up at top of Town Series

Sarchett, Fink-Debray lead 2-run racers

It’s anybody’s ball game in the 22nd annual Sun Valley Town Series of team ski races on Baldy—12 teams all having team scores of 3.00 points or fewer through four weeks of racing with three weeks to go.

You want to land in the top five of this year’s 35 teams since the names of 20 racers from that group are entered into a drawing for the grand prize of four Sun Valley 2013-14 season ski passes.

Sofa Kings and Corduroy Is for Pants/PK’s stayed the only two teams remaining with 0.00 scores after Wednesday’s Week No. 4, which was the first of two sessions in which individuals were clocked on combined two runs instead of best single run.

Hot on their heels are third-place Idaho Bioscience 0.18, fourth-place Loon Lakes 0.50 and fifth-place Vinyl Wrappers 0.82 points. Shot Skis enjoyed a 0.00 afternoon Wednesday and moved into sixth place at 1.00.

Wine-Ought posted a 0.11 day and Ski Tek was 0.01 to move into 10th and 11th places.

Sofa Kings racers are Lenny Joseph, Barrett Molter, Ted Tuma and Bob Buchanan. Corduroy: PK’s team leaders are Tyler Chandler, Charlotte Gourlay, Alex Jackson and Christy Luby.

On Idaho Bioscience are Chris Coe, Kirsten Terra, Inca Dieterich and Abby Siebert. The Loon Lakes are Shea Shapiro, Mark Winkler, Troy Thayer and Matt Baxandall.

Robin Sarchett (31.05 seconds) and second-place Miles Fink-Debray (31.17), both of Arc Park, waged a hot race among 121 skiers Wednesday with Sarchett’s blistering 15.45-second first heat holding up under Fink-Debray’s second-run assault. Also in the top 11:

3—Biche Rudigoz (Michel’s Christi) 31.97. 4—Nate Schwing (SVSEF) 32.21 and Carl Rixon Jr. (SVSEF) 32.21. 6—Hunter Storey (The Hos From Sturtos) 32.77. 7—Wes Powell (Apple’s) 33.10. 8—Joe Atwood (The Hos From Sturtos) 33.14. 9—Tyler Chandler (Corduroy/PK’s) 33.35. 10—Jim Grossman (Ski Tek) 33.65. 11—Jonna Mendes (2 Fast 2 Furious) 33.68 and Erika Hogan (SVSEF) 33.68.

Rabbits were Kevin Moss (Hors to Culture) 41.37 and Alex Jackson (Corduroy) 41.63, in 59th and 60th, respectively.

The series of dual modified giant slalom races takes a one-week break for the Presidents Day holiday and returns Wednesday, Feb. 27, when the party will take place at Lefty’s Bar &  Grill in Ketchum.

Final two dates of the season are March 13 and March 27.
