Education foundation announces ‘teacher grants’

Awards to help with professional development and class needs

    The Blaine County Education Foundation announced last week that it recently awarded $4,693 in mini-grants to teachers and classrooms at five Blaine County School District schools.
   The district said the grants were made possible by community donations, payroll deductions from educators and contributions from members of the foundation’s board of directors. The grants, awarded for the foundation’s “fall cycle” will affect about 2,300 students.
   “We want to thank all of our donors, from parents, to businesses to educators, who support the Blaine County School District,” stated foundation Co-Chair Becky Benson. “This support provides funds which increase the students’ knowledge in project-based learning activities, skills vital for competing in the 21st century.”
   Schools included in the awards were Wood River High School, Carey School and Woodside, Bellevue and Hailey elementary schools.

   A grant for $1,453 went to the high school for equipment to help record data collected during scientific experiments and to obtain a site license for EasyBib, an online citation program.
   Carey School received a grant for $500 to assistant a teacher with expenses to make a presentation at the National Art Convention.
   Woodside Elementary School received $1,900 to buy nonfiction books in both English and Spanish for Dual Immersion Program first-graders, to help a teacher with expenses for a presentation at the National Art Convention and to assist teachers with purchasing materials for an economics classroom project.
   Bellevue Elementary School received $340 to assist a physical education teacher with materials to help improve eye-hand coordination.
   Hailey Elementary School received $500 for electronic equipment for an after-school audiovisual class and robotics club.
