A 45-year-old Hailey woman has been charged with grand theft by embezzlement for allegedly stealing more than $41,000 over a four-year period from a Ketchum dental office where she was employed.
Barbara Lynn Adams was arrested by Ketchum police on the felony charge on Tuesday. An initial court appearance was held Wednesday in Blaine County Magistrate Court. Adams was later released after posting $25,000 bond.
According to court records, Adams is also known as Barbara Lynn Hall. She is represented by Ketchum attorney Brian Elkins.
Ketchum Police Chief Steve Harkins said the arrest followed a “lengthy and complex financial investigation” that was started in June when the owner of Sun Valley Dental Group notified police about a “possible embezzlement.”
Ketchum Detective Tom Moreland alleged in a probable-cause affidavit that Adams, a former payroll supervisor, wrote unauthorized checks to herself that totaled more than $41,000. Moreland alleged that the thefts occurred between June 2006 and September 2010.
Moreland claimed that during the four-year period, Adams wrote at least 13 checks to herself without authorization and that several of them were for amounts as high as $6,500.
