Wrestlers have Minico left before league tourney

Riverhawks nip WRHS 42-36

Winning four of the five heavyweight matches wasn’t quite enough for the Wood River High School wrestling in its 42-36 Great Basin Conferfence dual meet loss to host Canyon Ridge at Twin Falls Tuesday.

Senior Storm Anderson’s 53-second pin at 170 pounds started Wood River’s late thunder. Sophomore Jackson Toothman added a huge 4-2 decision at 182. Senior Thomas Heiden returned the lineup with a 38-second pin at 220. Senior Chris Carnes had a first-round fall in the 285-pound class.

Also winning by decision were freshman Ryan Anderson at 106, senior Tim Boyle at 120 and junior Cooper Bailey at 132, plus senior Jared Anderson with a second-round pin at 138 pounds.

Coach Shawn Huntington said, “We lost a tough one but there were some bright spots. We got some guys back in the lineup including Cooper Bailey who had been out for over a week with a concussion.”

Wood River finishes up its Great Basin Conference slate Saturday in Rupert against Minico at 1 p.m. and then gets ready for the state-qualifying GBC tournament Wednesday, Feb. 13 back at Canyon Ridge High School.
