Busy weekend for alpine ski racers

At Park City, Snow King


     Besides the Laura Flood and Cheeso Memorial races on Baldy, it was a busy weekend around the Intermountain Division alpine ski racing circuit Saturday through Monday.

     The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation sent 18 skiers ages 12-13 to the Park City (Utah) U-14 Qualifier for 230 racers on Payday ski run. Meanwhile, 23 racers ages 8-11 posted top results during the North Series giant slaloms for 110 racers at Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

     Katelyn Rathfon cracked the top 10 three times and Sage Rheinschild podiumed in giant slalom. Here are GS class placings by day and race for the SVSEF kids in Utah:

     · U-14 girls: Sage Rheinschild 2-GS, 7-GS, 19-SL; Katelyn Rathfon 6-GS, 5-GS, 4-SL; Molly Milgard 8-GS, 17-GS, 18-SL; Pilar Pennell 28-GS, 54-GS, 65-SL; Ella Viesturs 29-GS, 44-GS, 14-SL; Libby Kaiser 35-GS, 88-GS, 54-SL; Libby Lindstrom 54-GS, 62-GS, 74-SL; Bailey Holter 62-GS, 48-GS, 61-SL; Lucy More 85-GS, 76-GS, 72-SL; Ary Chutkan 115-GS, 106-GS, DSQ-SL; Kaia Jensen DNF-GS, 43-GS, 84-SL (131 racers).

     · U-14 boys: Cooper Dart 11-GS, 8-GS, 28-SL; Noah Leininger 18-GS, 17-GS, 33-SL; Charlie Stumph 37-GS, 32-GS, 30-SL; Mac Mizer 52-GS, 53-GS, 52-SL; Matt O’Connor 59-GS, 45-GS, 54-SL; Ethan Daves 69-GS, 56-GS, 50-SL; Keegan Webber 76-GS, 72-GS, 69-SL (92 racers).

Snow King races

     Lily Fitzgerald pulled off a 2.32-second win in Saturday’s 57-racer girls’ GS and Wyatt Minor was a 3.57-second GS winner among 53 boys. Runner-up Bennett Snyder and girls’ third-place Madison Ferris also podiumed as the SVSEF landed four of six podium spots.

     On Sunday, Madison Ferris graduated to first place in the 59-racer GS finale. Placing 1-2 in the 55-racer boys’ GS were Wyatt Minor and Buey Grossman. Here are weekend-best GS placings for SVSEF kids in the U-12 (10-11) and U-10 (7-9) classes on Lower Elk run:

     · U-12 boys: 1—Wyatt Minor. 2—Bennett Snyder and Buey Grossman. 8—Shaw Dean. 12—Charlie Snyder. 14—Fletcher Stumph. 15—Ridley Lindstrom. 17—William Everitt.

     · U-12 girls: 1—Lily Fitzgerald and Madison Ferris. 8—Allison Rathfon. 11—Sage Curtis. 20—Laine Allison. 24—Anja Schweiger.

     · U-10 boys: 2—Josh Blackburn. 6—William DeWolfe.

     · U-10 girls: 1—Jessica Blackburn and Anhwei Kirk. 2—Marit Kaiser. 4—Hannah Ferris. 6—Logan Lindstrom. 8—Lily Ann Dean. 11—Tatum Minor. 23—Ava Schweiger.
