Friday night racing opens at Rotarun

Teams, single racers invited for night racing

     Nighttime ski racing starts today, Friday, Feb. 1 at Hailey’s Rotarun Ski Area and continues each Friday through the month of February. Teams and individuals are invited.

     Register from 5-6 p.m. each Friday. Kids start racing at 6 p.m. on Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22 followed by snowboarders.

     The dual head-to-head giant slalom racing series is sponsored by 5B Garage. The four-week series is open for all ages and any equipment—alpine, telemark or snowboard. If snow conditions warrant, giant slalom may be replaced by a timed, terrain obstacle course.

     You can race just one Friday, or all four Fridays. There will be Ski Team and Non-Ski Team age and discipline categories for male and female skiers. Ages are 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-18, Adult and Snowboard.

     Businesses are encouraged to form teams. “Rotarun has been made by a lot of generous support by the trades in this community. This is our way to give a little fun back to all those plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and small businessmen and women,” said Jeff Smith, president of Rotarun Ski Club, a non-profit organization.

     At the Feb. 22 finals, in addition to team and individual racing, points will be tabulated and a “ski off” between the top men and women will confirm the King and Queen of the Hill.  Winners will receive a trophy.

     The affordable prices include lift ticket, racing, raffle and awards party at Rotarun following the race. Rates for each Friday are kids 17-and-under $15 and adults $20. You can also pre-pay for the entire series and save a few bucks.

Lift ticket prices are $15 for ages 18-and-up, $10 for ages 6-17, and free for kids 5-and-under when joined by an adult.
