Another solid tourney for WRHS wrestlers

Twin Falls arrives in Hailey tonight

Wood River High School wrestlers tuned up for tonight’s Great Basin Conference home meet against Twin Falls with a solid team effort during last weekend’s New Plymouth/R.D. Brown Invitational meet in southwestern Idaho.

Senior Tom Bailey went undefeated in three matches including a 22-5 technical fall plus 10-5 and 12-7 decisions to capture first place in the 152-pound class. His results led Wood River’s 13 competitors to a 24-18 cumulative record.

Capturing second places were seniors Thomas Heiden at 195 pounds and Chris Carnes at 285 pounds. Heiden logged a first-round pin and 8-4 decision. Carnes also won twice, with pins at 1:23 and 2:45.

Senior Tim Boyle won four of his five matches at 120 pounds—three by pin plus an 8-0 major decision—to carry off third place in his weight class. Also placing third was senior Storm Anderson at 170 pounds with three wins, two by pin along with an 8-4 decision.

Freshman Ryan Anderson recorded a third-round pin and 9-4 decision to place third at 106 pounds. Senior Jared Anderson, at 138 pounds, won three of his five matches for fourth place—three of them by pin along with a close 9-8 decision.

In the 16-team standings, Wood River (120.5 points) finished fourth overall behind Fruitland (180), Weiser (168.5) and Columbia of Nampa (139).

Tonight’s dual meet against Twin Falls starts at 6 p.m. Wood River then travels to the Challis Invitational Friday.
