Report from Baldy’s Skoch Cup racing

Intermountain and Northern Division Masters came together this past weekend for the annual Skoch Cup in Sun Valley.

Though the temperatures were a bit chilly, the racers were on fire.

Times are totaled throughout the three-day weekend for all the races as racers seek to have their names engraved on the sought after Skoch Cup. 

The weekend kicked off on Friday with two runs of Super G. In years past, the Super G had been raced down upper Greyhawk/Hemingway, however, this year the venue was switched to Warm Springs in memory of local Masters racer, Gene Timmons.

Many local Sun Valley racers were on hand this weekend to make this years competition intense.  The local ladies dominated the hill in Friday's races.

Erika Hogan snagged the top ladies time on both Super G runs, with Sarah Mazzola landing the two second best times and Ali Gunesch rounding out the third spot for both races as well.

For the men, the story was similar in the top ranks for both Super G runs. Miles Fink-Debray took home the top two times for both runs on Friday, followed closely by Christopher Probert and Cameron Fraser.

With the Super G complete, the Masters moved back to Hemingway and Greyhawk for Saturday's GS.

There were a couple tough courses to be tackled Saturday and the Masters were more than tough enough to step up to the job. Again the local ladies swept the overall podium led by Erika Hogan, with Sarah Mazzola close behind and Ali Gunesch hot on their tails.

To keep the local podium secured, in the men's GS, Carl Rixon led the way with two amazing runs, followed by Nate Schwing and Tyler Chandler.

Wow, these men and women were fast!

What better way to round out the weekend than a little bit of Sunday slalom down Cozy.

On this crisp, clear, and cold morning, racers suited up and threw on their shin guards to battle down the courses in the final event for the Skoch Cup.

Four ladies, Erika Hogan, Ali Gunesch, Jena Greaser and Dana Alexandrescu, found themselves racing in the men's Super Seed on the second run Sunday. These ladies were blazing fast.

Erika (1), Ali (2), and Jena (3) landed the combined overall times for the ladies in the slalom. In the men's division it was another podium sweep for the locals with Carl Rixon (1), Tyler Chandler (2), and Miles Fink-Debray (3).

With the weekend complete, it was time to tally all the times for the entire weekend and to name this year's Skoch Cup champions.

Congratulations to local racer, Erika Hogan, and Park City Masters racer Christopher Probert  for winning this year's Skoch Cup titles.

These two well-rounded and top notch racers will have their names engraved on the cherished Skoch Cup along with the names of many other racers who have led the way in the Skoch Cup tradition.

Congratulations to all the racers this weekend for coming out and living out your passion for ski racing in Sun Valley.  It was a fabulous weekend of fun racing and great friendships.
