Erika Hogan, former U.S. Ski Team hopeful and current Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation coach, skied an outstanding Skoch Cup last weekend and won the women’s title of the 16th annual alpine series sponsored by Ketchum’s Formula Sports.

Hogan won both super giant slalom races Friday, captured the giant slalom Saturday and added a slalom victory Sunday by an average margin of over two seconds per race. Not only did Hogan earn the overall Skoch Cup for women, she also beat Chris Probert of Salt Lake City, men’s combined winner.

Nearly 100 racers competed in Skoch Cup races that kicked off the Ski Club’s new 10-race Baldy Cup winter series.

In past years the SG was held on Greyhawk and Hemingway, much to the delight of locals accustomed to the gnarly steeps and intimidating speeds. In an effort to boost dwindling racer attendance, the SG race was moved to Warm Springs.

The strategy worked. Friday’s field was 30% larger for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Masters series event. Locals Miles Fink-Debray and Erika Hogan crushed the field in both SG races Friday.

On Saturday, Fink-Debray DNFd his first run, putting him out of contention for the overall Skoch Cup. Carl Rixon Jr. won the race, followed closely by Nate Schwing and Tyler Chandler. Sunday, it was Rixon again winning men’s slalom, just tenths of a second ahead of Chandler and Fink-Debray.

The Skoch Cup kicked off the 2013 Baldy Cup in which World Cup style points are awarded to the top 30 finishers, with age group points awarded to the top 10 finishers.

Overall leaders in the Baldy Cup are Hogan 400 points, Ali Gunesch 260 and Sarah Mazzola 240 on the women’s side, and Fink-Debray 260, Probert 240 and Rixon 200 for the men.

Age group leaders are Kirsten Kozlowski and Anna Droege for women and John Campbell and Cliff Cunha for men. Age groups are 12-and-under, 13-39, 40-59 and over-60.

The rest of the Baldy Cup has six races, open to all ages:

( Saturday, Feb. 16: Ski Club GS on Cozy.
