Ketchum P&Z reappoints officers

Deborah Burns to serve as chair, Rich Fabiano vice chair

The Ketchum Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously Monday to reappoint Deborah Burns as its chair and Rich Fabiano as vice chair for 2013.

Burns has served on the commission since 2005 and Fabiano since 2007. They have both held their current positions as the commission’s chair and vice chair since January 2008.

In an interview, Burns and Fabiano said they enjoyed serving on the commission because it’s a great way to give back to and be an active member of the community. Both are proprietors of businesses in Ketchum—Burns owns Burnsies Boutique, a women’s fashion, gifts and consignment store, and Fabiano owns Fabiano Construction.

“People come up to me all the time and say, ‘Eight years! Why?’” Burns said. “I enjoy doing it.”

When she was reappointed to the P&Z in September, Burns said she was excited to tackle current commission projects such as rewriting the city’s comprehensive plan and “evolving” the city’s planning codes.

In an interview after the meeting, Planning Manager Joyce Allgaier said there are several code amendments that she would like to propose to the commission. However, she said an update to the code will most likely have to wait until after the P&Z reviews and amends the city’s recently drafted comprehensive plan and recommends its adoption to the City Council, a process that she said at the meeting would take at least through March.

Fabiano said he and Burns share a very productive professional relationship and they’ll continue to work well together on the commission’s upcoming projects. Burns agreed that she and Fabiano make a great team.

“If it’s not broken, no need to fix it,” she joked.
