Turn ‘em in

Somebody knows—or will know—who shot the glass out of an exterior door at Wood River High School last week. They should not hesitate to report to the Hailey police the identity of the person or people who committed the act. 

Shooting out the glass, whether by an adult or a juvenile, was nothing less than a terrorist act that instilled fear in local parents, students and school patrons who, with all Americans, are still grappling with the mourning and the issues raised by the Newtown, Conn., elementary school massacre of 20 innocent children and six educators by a mentally disturbed assailant who ultimately killed himself.

No one in in their right mind—even in gun-loving Idaho—would carry a shotgun to the front door of a public school and discharge it, especially given the mood of the nation.

The act was reprehensible and intolerable. There is no personal or political grievance that could remotely justify the act. The offender needs to face the full fury of the community through justice meted out by a judge and jury.

No parent should ever have to wonder for a minute if they are endangering their children by sending them to school. No teacher or student should have to wonder if they are safe at school. No community should have to wonder if requiring public education is dangerous.

Hailey police are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the offender. All city and county law enforcement agencies in Blaine County should not rest until they apprehend the offender. 

This is a small county. People talk. We must find out who committed this outrage and turn ’em in.
