Airport launches revamped website

Promises ‘Nonstop flights direct to nonstop adventure’

The Friedman Memorial Airport has launched its new website, promising “nonstop flights direct to nonstop adventure!” to anyone considering traveling to Sun Valley.

Friedman Memorial Airport Administrative Assistant April Dieter presented the new website at last week’s meeting of the Airport Authority, capping off what she said was a five-month process.

Dieter said she tried, with the help of Boise-based consultants Marketing by Design, to come up with a website that had a broader appeal than the old one.

“We wanted a website that reached out to more audiences,” she said. “The old one was really just for locals.”

The website went live on Jan. 9 with the URL “www.iflysun.com.” Dieter said the new domain name is an effort to underscore the airport’s new marketing brand, which is simply Fly Sun.

The website is meant to contain all pertinent information about the airport and its history to both locals and interested visitors. All information can be accessed either through clear-cut menus or by using the Google-based search engine on the site’s left-hand navigation bar.

The website features pages on airport emergency services, airport management and location, copies of the joint powers agreement that formed the Friedman Memorial Airport Authority and the by-laws that govern the authority. The site also provides statistics on airport use, copies of completed and in-progress studies and airline information.

One section of the airport website will include what is called a “truth review,” in which airport communications staff will list misinformation about the airport or its studies, along with the date and source of the misinformation. Corrected information will be available on the site.

The site features several slide shows and a photo gallery, mainly composed of photos from Sun Valley City Councilman Nils Ribi, who donated the photos for the airport’s use.

Dieter said the website encompasses roughly 600 pages of documents, the equivalent of a 3-inch-thick binder of information. She added that the website will expand in the future to meet the needs of travelers and locals.

“It’s really a website for the future,” she said. “It will grow with us.”

Authority shifts meeting schedule

The Friedman Memorial Airport Authority has shifted its meeting schedule from the first Tuesday of every month to the second Tuesday for February, March and April.

The shift started because the Blaine County commissioners will be in Boise for the annual meeting of the Idaho Association of Counties during the entire week of Feb. 4.

The next meeting of the authority will be at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Blaine County Courthouse in Hailey. The following meeting will be four weeks later on Tuesday, March 12, and the third will be four weeks later on Tuesday, April 9. The regular schedule should resume in May.
