Baby, it’s cold outside

Good time to get close on the dance floor

After temperatures in the minuses and winds that make you say “ugh,” luckily, there are plenty of hot bands blowing to town at the same time.
Funky Andy Frasco and the UN, who rocked in the New Year in Ketchum, will be at the Sun Valley Brewery in Hailey tonight, Jan. 16, at 8 p.m. There is no cover to see this blues and jazzman from Los Angeles.
Gary Braun, the patriarch of the musical Braun family from up north that includes Mickey and the Motorcars, is bringing his popular brand of original country western music to the Brewery on Friday night. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. and there is no cover.
If Ketchum is in your sights Friday night, head over to Whiskey Jacques’ by 9 p.m. where $5 gets you in to hear Tracorum with Working DJs. This group from San Francisco is known for its original rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm ‘n’ blues. Steeped in traditional roots music, the band, which is touring with songwriter/pianist Fletcher Nielsen’s music and Derek Brooker on guitar, promises soul-quenching good times. Check them out at www.tracorum.com.
Head to Bellevue Friday, Jan. 18, and catch the Bermuda Cowboys at the Silver Dollar Saloon. There’s no cover for the show that starts at 9:30 p.m. and as always, people living in Hailey or Bellevue can catch a free shuttle home after.
Marmalade Hill, a fun cover band from Salt Lake City, is back Saturday for an evening of dance tunes. They always are a people-pleasing good time. Show starts at 9 p.m. and there is a $5 cover at Whiskey Jacques’ in Ketchum.
And before going back to work on Monday, spend your last bit of weekend freedom Sunday at Whiskey’s with a band appropriately called Sweatshop Union & Leisure Gang along with Mr. Chief Live Hip Hop. These guys are Northwest heavyweights in hip hop with an underground following getting closer to the surface with every appearance.
Mr. Chief’s music comes from a somber place rooted in struggle, yet leaves the crowd feeling triumphant with his delivery.
“I don’t want it to be construed that I had a tough life,” he says on his website. “The struggles that I speak on are everything that I brought upon myself: self-inflicted, learning the hard way, and growing as a man that doesn’t have a voice. But when I do a show, I’m on top of the world.”
