Carey (5-5) nips Shoshone 49-43 in boys’ hoops

League seasons cranking up

- The Carey Panthers boys’ varsity basketball team squared its season record at 5-5 and swept the season series with Shoshone 49-43 Tuesday night on the Indian hardwoods.

In another close battle with the Indians, Carey kept a lid on the scoring of Shoshone senior Garret Sant, who burned the Panthers for 34 points in a 63-61 Carey home victory Dec. 18. This time Sant scored 7 as Carey stretched its 23-22 halftime lead to 6 by the end.

Nate Adamson’s 15 points and 13 from Jordan Dilworth (two 3-pointers) led Carey. Sheldon Hansen added 8 points, Matt Whitworth 7, Patrick Baird 4 and Gunner Thompson 2. Shoshone shot 18-for-24 at the free throw line, Carey 13-for-18.

Carey opened its seven-game Northside Conference league slate Thursday night at home against the Community School (2-6, 0-0) of Sun Valley. The Panthers travel to Lighthouse Christian (8-2) Saturday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. for a big league game against the Lions.

- Wood River’s boys’ basketball team (3-5, 0-2 league) dropped a 60-24 home Great Basin Conference game to the Jerome Tigers (8-3, 2-1) Tuesday in Hailey. It was close at halftime, Jerome leading 26-16, but the Tigers outscored Wood River 34-8 after half.

For the Wolverines Eron Bates tallied 6 points, Alec Nordsieck 4, Connor Hayes 4, Max Mauldin 3, Kevin Hernandez 3, Nic Brunker 2 and Jose Hernandez 2.

Wood River hosted Canyon Ridge (0-11, 0-3) Thursday night, goes to Filer (9-2) for a 5 p.m. Saturday matinee and entertains Kimberly (3-7) Monday, Jan. 14 on the Hailey floor.

- The Jerome Tigers (9-5, 4-2 league) built a 29-11 halftime lead and posted a 50-26 Great Basin girls’ basketball victory over Wood River (1-12, 0-6) Wednesday at Jerome. Sydney Tidwell scored 9 points, Ciceley Peavey 6, Hannah Belloli 5, Rory Cole 4 and Kenya Schott 2 for the Wolverines. Wood River entertains GBC league-leading Twin Falls (10-4, 6-0) today, Friday on the Hailey hardwoods.
