Top results in Snowbird gates for SVSEF

At last weekend’s FIS slaloms


     Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation alpine men and women ages 16-20 turned in some top times during the Intermountain Cup Snowbird FIS slaloms Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 5-6 at the Utah resort.

     On Saturday, Kyla Miller of the Sun Valley Ski Academy (SVSA) won her U-18 (ages 16-17) class and placed second of 27 two-run slalom finishers, behind U-21 winner Sophia Frankenburg of Park City. Miller podiumed in third place among U-18s and finished fourth overall in Sunday’s SL.

     U-18 Jordan Fitzgerald, also from SVSEF/SVSA moved up from third place in her class Saturday, and fourth overall, to finish first among U-18s and second to Frankenburg in Sunday’s slalom finale. Amanda Stelling placed third among U-21 (ages 18-20) racers Sunday.

     Here are other SVSEF class placings among 17 locals:

     · U-21 boys: 9—Christopher Nalen.

     · U-21 girls: 4—Ali Gunesch. 7—Taylor Gilliam.

     · U-18 boys: 8—Parker Scott. 9—Ben Kanellitsas. 11—Payton Anderson. 15—Tanner Josey. 20—Logan Shipley. 27—William Harder. Cole Caulkins was 40th overall Saturday. Marc Leroux also competed.

     · U-18 girls: 5—Linnea Baysinger. 13—Jenna Lou Jansky. 20—Hannah Cobb.

     · In other news, former SVSEF alpine racer Harlan Collins of Hailey won three straight U.S. Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) technical races Jan. 4-6 during Grand Teton Conference competition at Red Lodge, Mt. Collins, who won Sunday’s slalom by nearly three seconds, competes for coach Jerry Wolf’s Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bear men’s alpine ski team out of Billings, Mt. Sun Valley Resort is due to host the USCSA national meet in early March.

 

Freestylers at Snowbird

     SVSEF Freestyle Team racers coached by Joey Cordeau opened the New Year on a positive note at Snowbird, Utah.

     Mogul Team captain RJ Bracken won both the single and dual mogul events. Morgan Shaver came out on top Sunday for a win, and was second both days in women’s single events.

     Other racers achieved personal bests, Cordeau said. “We almost swept the men’s duals with Bracken first and Trevor Norris second, Zac Siele fourth. Siele clocked one of the fastest times in M2 age group and also had the biggest air of the day.”

     Top class placings for SV included: 1—RJ Bracken, Zac Siele and Wilson Dunn. 2—Luke Rizzo. 3—Hunter Diehl and Cooper Roquet. 4—Will Griffith, Alysha Herich, Parker  Nance and Tobias Verheijen. 6—Wyatt Wilson and Renee Shapiro.
