Calling all pets! The Idaho Mountain Express is looking for photos of furry supermodels like Stella, above, taken on the Fox Creek Trail in July. Photos should capture the joy of pets living in the Wood River Valley and be submitted by Jan. 25. Photo by Kate Wutz

Does your feline know she’s the cat’s meow? Do you catch your dog preening himself in the mirror? Does your fish, guinea pig or tortoise mug for cameras?

The Idaho Mountain Express is launching its third annual pet photo contest today, Jan. 4, to choose some of the pet supermodels that will grace the pages of the annual Valley Pets special section.

The goal of the contest is to show the world how much your pet loves life, specifically in the Wood River Valley.

It doesn’t matter if your pet is a lap dog that prefers to enjoy hiking from the comfort of a backpack, a cat that loves nothing more than basking in the sunshine of a bluebird day or a giant, energetic dog that is happiest when bounding dozens of miles per day through the national forest.  The Express is looking for photos that capture the joie de vivre of all pets in the Wood River Valley.

A few rules: Photos must be submitted online via the Idaho Mountain Express website, www.mtexpress.com.

The submission page is available under the “Contact Us” tab on the top menu bar. Under the “Make a Selection” drop-down menu, choose “Pet Photo Contest 2013” and fill out the form.

Photos must be of a pet—any pet—and may contain a person. The photo must have been taken in the Wood River Valley or the surrounding area. Photo file size should be less than 3 megabytes, or the Express server will not accept the photo.

Pets must still be alive to be considered; advertisements memorializing pets that have passed away are available through the Idaho Mountain Express advertising department, at 726-8060.

All submissions must be received by 5 p.m. on Jan. 25 in order to be considered.

The winner and runners-up will be featured in the pages of the Valley Pets section printed on Feb. 6. The winner will also receive a $50 pet-related gift certificate.

So dust off that camera and give your furry supermodel the attention he or she deserves—who knows? Your efforts could be rewarded.
