Guitiara (Guity) Larizadeh Pierpoint, beloved wife of William Pierpoint, passed away on Dec. 20,
2012, due to complications from a lengthy battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Guity was born in 1940 in Shiraz, Iran. In 1967, following her formal education in Switzerland, England, Spain, and Italy, she came to Los Angeles. In 1971 she married William, who remained her husband for 41 years. She was the anchor of a large family and her devotion to her brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren was extraordinary. An unofficial mother to so many in her life, she could be counted on to unite everyone for holidays, birthdays and other occasions. Guity spoke five languages, loved to travel and, with her husband, visited most of the world. She was the ultimate hostess, had a deep love for animals, and was a truly talented artist, painting many beautiful works. Her strength of character was the force that helped her endure her countless struggles with IPF. She will be remembered by family and friends as a unique woman who lived her life with generosity and grace.
Guity is survived by her husband; son, Robert, and daughter-in-law, Linda; two grandchildren, Brandon and Brooke; brothers, Faramarz and Bahman Larizadeh; and loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1847 14th St., Santa Monica. Friends and family are invited to attend. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be earmarked for unrestricted research and education in pulmonary fibrosis and lung transplant, in memory of Mrs. Guitiara Pierpoint. Donation checks should be made payable to the UC Regents.

UCLA’s Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Program is the first of its kind on the West Coast to offer a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of ILD, including pulmonary fibrosis. Since there is no known cure for pulmonary fibrosis, the program is continually embarking on new studies to uncover its mysteries.
