SV Suns host Salt Lake Rebels this weekend

Express Staff Writer

Fresh off its weekend split with the Park City (Utah) Pioneers Dec. 14-15 on home ice, the Sun Valley Suns men’s senior hockey team hosts another Mountain West Hockey League (MWHL) opponent when the Rebels of Salt Lake visit Sun Valley Skating Center on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 21-22.

Opening faceoffs for the holiday weekend two-game series are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Rebels (11-3-0) will bring the best MWHL record to date into the Idaho barn including a four-game split with the Aspen (Colo.) Leafs in a home-and-home Dec. 7-8 and 14-15.

Sun Valley (1-3), a 4-3 winner over Park City last Friday in its 2012-13 home debut, had a third-period letdown Saturday and dropped an 8-3 decision. Meanwhile, the Rebels had six games in October and November and  boasted a five-game winning streak before falling at home in Utah to Aspen’s Leafs Dec. 8.

Next for the Suns: A Christmas holiday treat is the Future Suns youngsters clashing with the current Suns in a Dec. 26 home exhibition to raise money for youth hockey and the Brett Sammis Scholarship Fund. Opening faceoff is 7 p.m. next Wednesday on resort ice.

The Jackson Hole (Wyo.) Moose are the Suns’ guests for a big New Year’s weekend series Dec. 28-29 at Sun Valley Skating Center.
