Moellenberg in top 10 at sectionals

The Sun Valley Figure Skating Club has announced that Shayna Moellenberg, the club’s highest level junior competitive skater, competed in Senior Ladies 2013 Sectional Championships at Provo, Utah Nov. 9.

Moellenberg finished ninth competing against the best Senior Ladies figure skaters in the West. That was a personal-best finish for her at this level.

For the last the two years Moellenberg has been the only championship skater from Idaho at any regional or sectional championship competition. Her coach Lisa Marie Allen accompanied her to Provo.

Meanwhile, SVFSC skaters tested for Moves in the Field and Freeskate in Boise Nov. 18.

Alex Harten passed Senior Moves, Joyce Chan passed Junior Moves, Lane Letourneau passed Juvenile Moves and Juvenile Free Skate, Blake Letourneau passed Pre-Juvenile Moves and Pre-Juvenile Free Skate, and Sage Curtis passed Pre-Preliminary Freeskate.

 

Scholarship chance for a Boulder Ski Tour skier

Girls on the Run of the Wood River Valley is offering a new opportunity to an adult athlete to take part in a unique cross-country skiing experience, thanks to a grant from the Little Black Dress Club.

Mary Fauth, Girls on the Run director, said one athlete will be chosen to undergo the necessary training to compete in the 2013 Boulder Mountain Ski Tour on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The training includes taking part in Muffy Ritz’s VAMPS cross-country ski women’s program, as well as taking advantage of a Sun Valley Nordic season ski pass donated by Sun Valley Resort.

Deadline to enter complete the scholarship application process is Friday, Dec. 14. Visit girlsontherunwrv.org.

 

Sun Valley B+ Hockey League results

Sun Valley B+ Hockey League results from Sunday at Sun Valley Skating Center:

Aardvarks (3-2-0) downed Hutch’s Bad Dogs (2-2-1) by a score of 6-4. Scoring for the winners were Pete Prekeges (2 goals), Eric Wingard (1 assist), Ian Root, Clark Shafer and Dillon Witmer. Single goals for Hutch’s came from Whit Atkinson, Brad Musbach, Jen Embree and Tom Trieschman, with an assist to Eddie Grimes.

Sharks (4-1-0) suffered their first loss 4-2 to Vipers (3-2-0). Biche Rudigoz (2 goals), Dan Gralenski and Dan Choma (1 assist) did the Vipers scoring, with Scott Seaward picking up a pair of assists. Sharks goals came from Dan Gorham and Rod Watson, assists credited to Bill Sprong and Trieschman.

Rockets (2-3-0) got a hat trick from Greg Townley along with single goals by Ken Pratt and Baba Street in their 5-2 victory over Flounders (0-4-1). Alex Baron had two assists for the winners. John Baker and Chris Peterson scored for Flounders, assists to Terry Crawford (2).
