In-home health care business opens

Couple starts Visiting Angels franchise in Hailey

The boundary between living independently in one’s home and entering an assisted-nursing facility can be a narrow one. A newly opened business in Hailey could help those in need of a little support remain in their homes longer.

Mike and Drue Shapiro recently started a Visiting Angels franchise in Hailey, hiring seven care-givers who will provide non-medical, in-home care for the elderly and those convalescing from injuries and illnesses.

“This is a great community where people have spent years of their lives. They should be able to stay here in their homes,” said Drue Shapiro, who has visited her parents in the valley for 10 years. “We want to provide independence for the people we care for, and peace of mind for their families.”

Visiting Angels, founded in 1998, has 450 franchises nationwide. The company provides support in the form of shopping, cooking, grooming and personal hygiene. Caregivers provide companionship and run errands, filling in gaps often provided otherwise by family members.

The company is insured and bonded, and is covered by long-term health care insurance and some veterans benefits programs. The company’s services are not covered by Medicare or Medicaid.
