Eleven Wood River High School football players have been named to the Great Basin Conference All-League squads on either first, second or third teams, or honorable mention.

Senior KJ Savaria and sophomore Hayden Thayer earned the highest honors of being named to the GBC first teams. At the Hailey team’s banquet in November, Savaria was “Best Offensive Player” and Thayer earned the “Best Defensive Player” award.

Other Wolverines on second and third teams were seniors James “Buck” Horn and Chris Carnes, juniors Cooper Bailey and Gus Conrad, and sophomore Jackson Toothman.

Four seniors made honorable mention for coach Kevin Stilling—Tommy Bailey, Wyatt Griffith, Jared Anderson and Trevor Brand.

During the team’s 2-6 season, 5-11, 200-pound running back and linebacker Savaria piled up four 100-yard rushing games and rushed 128 times for 775 yards and a team-high five touchdowns for 30 points.

He was the main cog in a Wolverine rushing attack that, in its first seven games, doubled up opponents in ground yardage—rushing 334 times for 1,846 yards compared to 219 times for 962 yards by its foes.

The Great Basin was top-heavy this fall. For the first time in its nine-year history, three teams tied for first place. Leading the way was top state playoff seed Minico of Rupert (7-3) followed by Twin Falls (5-5) and Jerome (5-4).

Fittingly, players from each team shared the top player honor, and Minico’s earned the top coach honor.

( GB Co-Players of the year: Jordan Browning (Minico), Kolton Parsons (Jerome) and Jason Byce (Twin Falls).

( Coach of the Year: Minico’s Tim Perrigot.
