A 43-year-old Hailey man has been charged with a felony for allegedly severely battering his 11-year-old son the day after Thanksgiving.

Kenneth Gerald Crowson was formally charged with the crime of felony injury to a child at an initial court appearance Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 5.

Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter said Crowson was arrested at his home on West Walnut Street shortly after 11:45 a.m. Friday. He was released from custody later that day after posting $25,000 bond.

Gunter said police went to the Crowson residence that morning because of a “third-party report.” At the home, Gunter said police determined that the boy had been struck in the face.

“He blackened his left eye and apparently there was a burst blood vessel in his eye,” Gunter said, adding that the boy also had “marks” on the right side of his face and “finger marks around the neck.”

Asked what may have led to the alleged confrontation, Gunter said, “The father apparently had been sick and the two sons were apparently fighting.”
