State 1A Division 2 eight-man football semi-finalist Dietrich High and quarterfinalist Carey amassed the top picks on the All-Sawtooth Conference North prep football team.
The All-Conference squad was selected Nov. 19 after the Idaho High School Activities Association state eight-man football finals won 53-38 by Salmon River of Riggins (10-2) over Lighthouse Christian Academy of Twin Falls (9-3).
North Division runner-up Carey (7-3) boasted first-team picks in senior Francisco “Poncho” Gamino (offense/defense), senior Glen Andrews, senior Gunner Thompson, senior Jordan Dilworth and sophomores Matt Whitworth and Nate Adamson.
Repeating as Sawtooth North “Coach of the Year” was Doug Astle of North Division champion Dietrich.
Dietrich (9-1) averaged 46.2 points per game and earned its fourth straight state playoff berth and sixth in seven years. State third-place Dietrich lost to eventual champion Salmon River 35-12 in the semi-finals.
Also on Nov. 19, Carey coach Lane Kirkland announced the Panther football award winners. They were:
( Offensive Player of the Year: Senior quarterback Jordan Dilworth. He rushed 67 times for 437 yards and 8 touchdowns. Dilworth completed 83-of-165 passes for 1,390 yards and 24 TDs plus 17 two-point conversion passes.
( Offensive School Records: Dilworth finished with career passing records of 189-for-337 with 63 TDs, 34 two-point conversions and 3,708 total yards.
( Defensive Player of the Year: Francisco Gamino (99 tackles, 6 sacks) on the defensive line and as linebacker.
( “Trench Digger” Lineman of the Year: Glen Andrews (72 tackles, 8 sacks at defensive lineman). He also helped the Carey offense pile up 3,652 total yards in 2012.
( Most Improved: Tori Alvarez. The junior running back, tight end and linebacker had 82 tackles, rushed 56 times for 267 yards and 4 TDs, and caught 23 passes for 435 yards and 6 TDs.
( Most Inspirational: Gunner Thompson, an all-purpose player who made 55 tackles and gave his best every play, coach Kirkland said.

Guards—First team: Francisco Gamino (Carey) and Austin Fenstermaker (Dietrich). Second team: Glen Andrews (Carey) and Austin Mickelsen (Clark County). Honorable mention: Jordon Robles (Camas County).
Receivers—First team: Nate Adamson (Carey) and Vance Perron (Dietrich). Second team: Martin Becali (Richfield).
Punter—First team: Gunner Thompson (Carey). Second team: Dustin Rosenkrance (Mackay).
