New restrictions killed Sawtooth Music Festival

The following is the mission statement for a petition circulating online via Facebook and Change.org in support of the recently cancelled Sawtooth Music Fest:
“For the past eight years, the Sawtooth Music Festival has been the highlight of summer for thousands of people: a weekend of great music with a sense of community, peace and love set in the breathtaking natural beauty of the Sawtooth Mountains. The festival provided a positive environment for people of all ages and helped to cultivate a love of music and creativity within the community. Children and adults alike came out, every year, to support the musicians and seize the opportunity to relax in the one-of-a-kind town. Beyond what the festival provided for attendees, it was the city that benefited the most. SMF served as the single biggest tourist and economic boon to a small, seasonal town. All of which was accomplished by the incredible staff of SMF that worked hard each and every year to ensure that the festival would be eco-friendly and low-impact on the area. To the great dismay of many, it was recently announced that the city of Stanley, has imposed “new financial burdens ... while simultaneously limiting capacity to 2,000 people,” an economically crippling combination. With this petition, we urge the reconsideration of these excessive regulations, and most importantly, we show the solidarity and commitment of the community to aiding the return of Sawtooth Music Fest in 2013.”
