Girls on the Run

íTis the season for fundraisers and a film festival

    The girls empowerment program that works on self-esteem, community consciousness-raising and health for a lifetime is seeking a little extra support during the coming weeks.
    The public is invited to attend and help is needed to sell raffle tickets and hot cocoa at the Hailey Holiday Square on the next three Saturdays; Nov. 17, from 4-6 p.m., Nov. 24 from noon to 2 p.m. and Dec. 1, from noon to 2 p.m. The organization will also be at the Zions Bank-sponsored Business Showcase on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Sun Valley Inn.
    The Woodside Girls on the Run team has chosen to help Hurricane Sandy victims as their community project this season. The girls will hold a bake sale at Albertsons in Hailey on Friday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. For more information or to make a donation, call 788-7863.
    Products, services and desserts are needed to be sold at the reception and silent auction portion of this year’s Lunafast, the film festival dedicated to women and girls.
    Raffle tickets and all the information needed to provide help or contribute is available now online by visiting Prizes include a “Pamper Me” package and the choice of a treadmill or elliptical machine. They will be awarded Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Lunafest Film Festival.
    The fundraising film festival is dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities. This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.
    All proceeds from the event will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and Girls on the Run of the Wood River Valley. The silent auction that will precede the event has launched an online bidding opportunity at Bidders can win auction items such as trips, snowshoe and pass packages, Lululemon and Zenergy products and lots more, from the comfort of home in case they are unable to attend the event. Some specialty items will be available for previewing online and only winnable at the event.

When: Dec. 1, 6:30 p.m. reception and auction and 7:30 p.m. (PG-16) films begin.
Where: nexStage Theater, Ketchum.
How much: $15 for adults or $20 at the door and $10 for students and seniors.
