Baseball, softball association seeks volunteers
Wood River Baseball and Softball Association president Matt Douthit said the organization that oversees spring and summer baseball and softball is seeking volunteers to fill three positions for the 2013 seasons.
Volunteer positions that need to be filled are WRBSA secretary, American Legion baseball director and girls’ softball director.
WRBSA officials will meet with candidates Monday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Wood River High School Distance Learning Lab. For more information and to register your interest, call Douthit at 309-2639.
Sun Valley B+ Hockey League results
Three games kicked off the Sun Valley B+ Hockey League season Sunday at Sun Valley Skating Center.
Sharks nipped Rockets 3-2 on goals by Chris Corwin, Sara Schroeder and Rod Watson (1 assist). Rockets goals came from Todd Avison and Clay Sammis, with an assist to Greg Townley.
Aardvarks trimmed Vipers 3-2. Scoring for the winners were Josh Green, Will Hemmings and Ian Root, with an assist to Pete Prekeges. Vipers goals were scored by John Ellison Jr. and Scott Seaward, assists to Jim Laski and Biche Rudigoz.
In a high-scoring affair, Hutch’s Bad Dogs and Flounders battled to a 6-6 deadlock. Hutch’s goals: Ryan Baumgardner, Mark Ellsbree, Steve McCoy, Brad Musbach, Rob Prew and Chris Roberts, with an assist to Whit Atkinson. Flounders goals: John Baker (3), Jeff Ballou, Sean Murphy and Chris Salvatierra, assists to Jim Slanetz, Jini Griffith and Salvatierra.
Team High Altitude runners
Coach Ted Stout took Team High Altitude to the Nike Cross Regional Championships at Eagle Island in Boise Nov. 10. There were 780 racers in the Nike races, plus another 101 in the community footraces.
Janel Passey had the best improvement of all the Team High Altitude runners. She clocked a season-best 5-kilometer effort at 20:44 placing 33rd in the 123-runner girls’ varsity race. Mariah Stout (22:13, 96th) and Amanda Passey (22:55, 111th) were the next two for High Altitude, all recording personal bests for the Eagle Island course. Hallie McPherson (23:11, 112th) and Shelby Barnes (26:02, 122nd) also had season-best times.
Chase England placed 9th in the 256-runner boys’ varsity race with a personal-record for that course at 16:52. Jason Holmes of Bozeman, Mt. won in 16:22. Alexis Gonzalez (18:15, 161st) and Ty Reinemann (18:44, 196th) were the next two local boys. Colby Castle also had a major season-best at 22:53.
Finishing in the community races were Kirsys Campbell, Lauren Roberts, Cadence Campbell, Ted Stout and Heith England.
Fiddler to give Nordic clinics
Women’s cross-country ski racing pioneer Nancy Fiddler has joined the Nordic community of the Wood River Valley for this winter season and is eager to pass on her knowledge of the sport to local athletes.
Fiddler will conduct an eight-week Lake Creek Masters coed course for Intermediate to Advanced skiers. Racers and non-racers alike will improve their skills and learn to ski all types of terrain well, on both skate and classic skis.
A 14-time national champion and two-time Olympian, Fiddler is a certified coach with 20 years of experience coaching masters and juniors.
Her clinics begin Tuesday, Dec. 4 and run eight weeks through Feb. 2013. Technical training occurs Tuesdays from 9-11 a.m. at Lake Creek. Conditioning (including interval and speed training, strength, tempo and time trails) is Thursdays from 9-11 at the same site.

Adult indoor nights at BCRD
With the weather changing, local adults might want to take advantage of affordable recreational activities offered by the Blaine County Recreation District at the Community Campus gym in Hailey.

- Tuesdays and Wednesdays: Adult Indoor Soccer from 7-10 p.m., cost $25 for 45-minute sessions. Call 578-2273 to reserve a session.

Winter rates at Burley Golf Course
Head golf pro Mike Williams (208-878-9807) reminds golfers from the Wood River Valley that winter rates at Burley Golf Course went into effect Nov. 8 and will continue until further notice. Greens fees are $12 per person for nine holes or $17 per person for 18 holes. Cart fees are $6 per person for nine holes. Depending on weather, the public course is open seven days from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
CSI Ski Swap is Nov. 16-17
Did you miss the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation’s annual Ski Swap in October? You might check out the 43rd annual College of Southern Idaho Ski Swap set for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17 at the CSI Rec Center in Twin Falls. The two-day sale (Friday from 3-10 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-10 p.m.) is conducted by CSI international business students, who earn commissions from sold items. Items include winter sports equipment and clothing in addition to newer items from vendors. Admission is $2.
