A 58-year-old Hailey man has been charged with aggravated assault, a felony, for allegedly threatening his wife with a gun last week.

Following his arrest Thursday evening by Hailey police, Lawrence I. Weinberger was formally charged with the crime Friday afternoon in Blaine County Magistrate Court. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 14 before Judge R. Ted Israel.

Weinberger was later released from the Blaine County jail after posting $50,000 bond.

A no-contact order, valid for a year, was issued ordering Weinberger not to be within 300 feet of his wife or the couple’s home on Heartland Way.

Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter said officers were called to the home shortly before 6:30 p.m. last Thursday. Gunter said Weinberger wasn’t at the home when officers arrived but was taken into custody when he returned a few minutes later.

The police chief said Weinberger was arrested for “allegedly pointing a gun and threatening his wife.”

“He was allegedly intoxicated,” Gunter said.

The police chief declined to discuss what led to the alleged gun incident, other than to say that the couple was arguing over “some issue from 10 years ago.”
