New pet store opens in Hailey

A new pet store has opened in Hailey with an emphasis on American-made food, treats and toys.

Kate Nixon, owner of the Baldy Biscuit Co., opened her new store, 5B Paws ’n’ Claws, this week. Nixon said she has always wanted to expand from her biscuit business into a full-scale retail outlet.

“I’ve wanted to do a pet store forever,” she said. “All of our foods and treats are 100 percent American.”

Nixon said she sells two brands that valley pet owners might have a hard time finding elsewhere—Blue Buffalo pet food and Dr. Harvey’s Health Formulations, which was developed by a veterinarian in New Jersey. The store also features a number of pet beds and toys that are made in Montana.

5B Paws ’n’ Claws is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 616 S. Main St. in Hailey, next to the Dollhouse.

Luxury house goes up for bid

A luxurious mountain home in Ketchum is being sold at auction today, Nov. 7, by New York City-based Concierge Auctions. Originally offered for almost $6 million, the house at 106 Howard Drive near the Warm Springs base area will sell to the highest bid above $2.55 million.

Built in 2008, the 5,900-square-foot home has five bedrooms, six full bathrooms and one half-bathroom. Design details include reclaimed 100-year-old beams and white oak flooring. Outdoors, residents can enjoy three decks including a fire pit and hot tub.

The sale is in cooperation with listing agent Katherine B. Schroder of Sun Valley Sotheby's International Realty, www.sunvalleysir.com/eng.

Concierge Auctions said the sale of high-end houses through auctions is a growing trend in the United States.
