It wasn’t a question of “if”, but a question of “when.”

When would Carey win and get back into the playoffs?

The Carey Panthers pummeled Clark County on Friday afternoon in Dubois, 50-0, to get a pass to play in the 1A State Playoffs once again.

It only took Carey three quarters to punch its ticket for an eighth year in a row to the state playoffs.

Carey will now face defending champion Lighthouse Christian in a rematch of last year’s title game.

Carey (7-2, 4-1) tallied up 410 yards of total offense to run away from Clark County (6-3, 3-2).

Prior to this game, Clark County was averaging 38 points per game. Clark County even put up 72 points in a win against Richfield earlier this year.

But Clark County’s offense was no match for the juggernaut that is Carey.

The Panthers rushed for 263 total yards on 26 attempts. Carey was led by Christian Zarate who had 129 yards and two touchdowns. Zarate also caught a touchdown pass.

Zarate scored on long touchdown runs. One from 44-yards out and the other from 43-yards out.

The Panthers also did it through the air by putting up 147 yards passing and totaling five touchdown passes in the game.

Quarterback Jordan Dilworth completed just 6-of-16 passes, but six of those completions were for six points.

Nate Adamson caught two touchdown passes of 5 yards and 21 yards. Tori Alvarez also caught two touchdowns from 4 yards and 23 yards out.

Clark County’s once potent offense only mustered up 89 yards in the game.

Carey has now won six in a row and snapped Clark County’s four game winning streak.

Carey beating up on Clark County is nothing new. Last year, Carey limited Clark County to just 28 rushing yards in a 58-0 mercy-rule romp that was over by halftime.

Along with five touchdown passes, Dilworth rushed for 57 yards in the game. Luis Garcia, who scored on a 3-yard two-point conversion, tallied up 62 yards rushing.

Carey had 36 total tackles in the game and two sacks. Those two sacks belonged to Joe Parke.

Glen Andrews led Carey with nine tackles. Tori Alvarez, Gunner Thompson and Matt Whitworth all had five tackles; Jordan Dilworth and Francisco Gamino each had three tackles; Parke, Nate Adamson and Garcia had two tackles in the game.

The opening round of the 1A State Playoffs will be in Twin Falls over the Nov. 2-3 weekend.
