County shakes up meeting schedule

Bulk of items to be discussed Monday

Express Staff Writer

Blaine County commissioners have another odd meeting schedule this week, due to an Idaho Association of Counties meeting that Commissioner Larry Schoen is attending Tuesday.

A special Monday meeting will begin at 9 a.m. with the swearing-in of new Commissioner Jacob Greenberg. Greenberg was appointed by Gov. Butch Otter on Tuesday to replace resigning Commissioner Tom Bowman.

Bowman announced his resignation in late July and officially resigned Oct. 5, leaving to become the CEO of Sentinel Fire and Security.

The board will have a discussion on the county’s skilled nursing situation Monday at 10:30 a.m. The commissioners have received three proposals for skilled-nursing facilities in the county: one from Pocatello-based TanaBell Health Services, which is partnering with Blaine Manor to revamp the management of the existing facility in Hailey; one from Pocatello-based Safe Haven Health Care, which is already planning to build a skilled-nursing and assisted living facility in Bellevue; and one from the Croy Canyon Ranch Foundation, partnering with Texas-based Greystone Communities, a company that provides management, development and marketing consulting services for senior care facilities.

The commissioners are expected to take about an hour and a half to bring Greenberg up to speed on the skilled-nursing process so far and to perform an initial review of the three proposals.

Commissioner Angenie McCleary said earlier this month that formal evaluation of the proposals would likely not occur until the commissioners’ November meetings. No skilled-nursing discussions are on the draft agenda for Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Tuesday’s meeting will focus on land use items in the afternoon. A plat amendment hearing and a stream alteration permit hearing are expected to take one hour total, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
